2008 Greenbank Farm Loganberry Festival
Fun for the family with a new Artist in Action series!
It’s summer party time on Whidbey Island. The annual Loganberry Festival at the Greenbank Farm is July 26 and 27. Music, food, wine tasting, arts and crafts booths are popping up around the main barns from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend and admission is free.
Live music abounds all day with an interruption every two hours for the much anticipated loganberry pie eating contests for children ages 12 and under. Also for children is a carnival by the Free Evangelical Church and puppet shows and interactive theatre games produced by The Greenbank Barnstormers. Hayrides for all provided by M-Bar-C Ranch tour the grounds revealing vistas on both sides of the island.
New this year are professional artists demonstrating what they do. Featured artists include Betty Rayle, plein air painter; Mary Burks, fiber artist and weaver; Joan Brosnahan, mixed media artist; Pat Brookes, watercolorist; Wendy Ferrier, spinner and weaver; Alexei Kazantsev, sculptor and photographer; and Pat McVay and Steve Baccus, chainsaw artists.
Keeping with an “Artist theme:” the Rob Schouten Gallery is pleased to exhibit the interactive art installation, "DOORGAN" over the weekend of Greenbank Farm's Loganberry Festival, Saturday, July 26 and Sunday July 27, from 10 AM to 5 PM daily. DOORGAN consists of seven freestanding doors representing the seven chakras of yogic meditation. The framework for each door contains a loop tape player, which adds the element of sound when a door is opened.
Jim Freeman, widely acknowledged as Whidbey’s conductor of fun, is the main stage master of ceremonies, who keeps the music flowing beginning Saturday with Island Strings, celebrating 35 years of talented youth; followed by Shifty Sailors, Whidbey's ambassadors of fun, fellowship and sea shanties; then Janie and Joe, rockin’, soulful blues from the heart and finishing the day with Da Sharks, Whidbey’s favorite party band.
Sunday’s music launches with Bahia, sharing tropical breezes with a beat; followed by Danny Ward and Reality, saxmaster Danny and the boys; next is Vieux est Nouveau, playing django — hot and sultry style; and finishing the weekend with Spoonshine from Anacortes, doing original bluegrass, folk and worldbeat music.
